특별한 에덜리드 마딜로(Madillo)등반 헬멧

2008년 들어 엄청 올라버린 한국의 원화대비 유로화 환율( 1700원/Euro) 때문에 유럽에서의 쇼핑 메리트가 전혀 없어져 버렸고, 현재환율을 적용하다보면 모든것이 한국보다 훨씬 더 비싸다 느껴집니다. 

 

실제 유럽인들이 느끼는 유로물가는 1 유로당 1000원 정도로 보면 된다싶은데, 원화 환율 급락으로 인해 1유로가 1700원 으로 환산 되다보니 실제 현지 체감물가에 비해 무려 70%나 높은 가격을 지불 하는 것 입니다.

마딜로 헬멧이 변신을 시작 하는 첫단게 입니다. 헬멧옆에 붙은 단추를 살짝 뒤로 밀어주며 양쪽 사이드 부분을 올려주면 이런식으로 사이드가 열리게 됩니다.

마딜로 헬멧의 특징은 바로 위 사진에서 보여지는 것 처럼 헬멧을 접었다 폈다 할 수 있다는 것 입니다.등반장비를 꾸려본 경험이 있는 사람들은 모두 잘 알겠지만, 등반 헬멧을 배낭 밖에 매달지 않고 베낭안에 팩킹을 할 경우 공간을 많이 차지하게 되어 부담스러운데, 마딜로 헬멧은 접었을 경우 사이즈가 아주 작아져서 전혀 팩킹 부담이 없습니다.(무게도 가볍습니다). 

 

그동안 가끔씩 꼭 암벽등반이 아닌 일반 산행을 나설때라도 헬멧을 아무때나 가지고 다니며, 필요할 때 마다 꺼내 사용 하면 좋겠다 싶었지만 사실 일반 산행중 헬멧의 부피 때문에 산행장비에 헬멧을 포함시키지 않았었는데 이경우 해답은 바로 마딜로 헬멧 입니다.

 

실물을 보니 접은 상태의 헬멧사이즈가 실제 생각했던것 보다 더 작고 가볍네요.

 

 

프랑스 현지가격은 75유로 로 생각보다 비싸지 않고 다른 고급형 헬멧과 비슷한 가격대 였습니다.(미국에서의 가격이 125달러 정도 하는 것 으로 알고 있어서 유럽에서도 꽤나 비싸겠다 싶었는데 그렇지 않군요.)

 

서양인들의 두상이 한국사람들과는 다르고(앞뒤짱구 스타일), 또한 접었다 폈다 하는 새로운 시스템을 적용하였기 때문에 착용감이 좀 거북스럽지 않나 싶었는데, 실제 써 보니까 착용감도 무척 자연 스럽고 특히 착용하였을 때 무게감이 무척 가볍고(380g) 좋습니다.

THE EDELRID MADILLO

So, you don’t wear a helmet when climbing then. Quite right too after all so many reasons why not to, they don’t make you look cool, they are too heavy and they take up far too much room in your sack.

Well admittedly these have been good reasons although whether they outweigh the fact that a not too large rock could paralyse you or worse I’d think not, but these reasons stand up to scrutiny no longer with the arrival of the Edelrid Madillo.

Yes that’s right, folds up, so taking up minimal space, it weighs a mere 380g and would, without a doubt, deserve a place on the climbing equivalent of the Top Gear Cool Wall.


The shell of the Madillo is manufactured from a high strength abrasion and impact resistant injected material whilst two different foam materials (EPP and EVA) provide optimum comfort and safety.

EPP provides shock absorption to the crown whilst the softer EVA lines the sides for optimum comfort. The rear panel of the helmet covers the neck and provides protection from impact from above when the wearer may be looking down. With a size adjustment range of 52cm through to 62cm there is a good chance that the Madillo will fit most heads.
